Area One Triathlon
Area 1 Triathlon Saturday 28th January 2012, report by Sarah Beale
It was very exciting to be able to combine the swimming and running with the Showjumping. It was so different to any other horse show as it not only required horse skills but the rider's fitness too.
The day began at the Camden pool where all competitors had to swim a set amount of laps. Everyone was sitting on the side of the pool cheering for the swimmers. At the end of each heat everyone looked so tired, and there was still the running and riding to go.
After the swim had finished, everyone made their way back to the pony club to begin the run. Each lap was 1km and the different age groups and divisions ran a different distance. Everyone who was waiting to run would clap & cheer the runners as they came past. It was so good to see the riders all encouraging each other to keep going.
The final part to the event was the jumping. This combined a jumping course then cross-country obstacles. Having done all the physical parts I'm sure the competitors were quite excited to finally be riding. It was great to have it as a Derby combining the Showjumping and cross-country as it really tested the riders.
The triathlon was an amazing event and is definitely one that tested all the riders in different ways. I'm sure everyone was excited to be able to get in the car and sleep on the way home. Thank you to the organisers who were able to make it such a success.

Recently the zone 23 pony club riders, who are competing at this year's Sydney Royal show, (teams of 4, and jumping team) were invited to feature in a short Saturday Disney story, on how much effort goes into preparing your horse for the Easter Royal.

Under 13 – Rachael Raheb 2nd and 9th (4th overall), Alex Jones, 7th and Ashley Clarke 10th
Under 15 – Lauren French 3rd
Under 17 – Isabelle Miller 4th
For several of the members this was their first State Dressage and they all performed beautifully with very tough competition.
My special thanks to our Team Managers, Sharryn Raheb, Marion Grove and Garry Temm who all managed to looked immaculately dressed even in all the heat and dust and who handled all that was thrown at them in such a pleasant and professional manner.

Jamboree 2010
Thank you to all the members who attended our Zone 23 Jamboree with such enthusiasm. The weather held up and through the efforts of the Zone 23 committee and their volunteers, the event ran like clockwork. Judging from the many emails I have received from delighted parents, it appears everyone had a wonderful time.
Thank you to all our fabulous judges in the Hacking rings for their great rapport with the kids – it was great to see so many smiles.
A special Thank You needs to go to a few people:
Sarah Wadsworth and Helen Taylor who came back at 7.00am on Sunday to judge our Team of 4 and give them some hints.
Ian Charnaud for assisting to set up on Friday, pencilling all afternoon Saturday, running the commentary all weekend and judging the jumping on Sunday.
Jill Hawker for judging the Equitation and managing to get all the children through in such record time.
John Beale for transporting the jumps to and from in his truck, sorting out the scoring program, organising the BBQ and acting as Technical Delegate for the sporting.
Darlis Reen for handling so much of the organisation prior to the Jamboree – both with Arcadia's Novice Ring and Zone 23's general bits.
Our scoring team – Michael Syme, Tess Wiseman, Natalie Rochester and Jodi Russell who stayed on top of it all weekend.
Finally, all the wonderful team of members who stayed up on Saturday night labelling ribbons – Victoria Temm, Anneliese Reen, Catherine Syme, Christopher Syme, Ashleigh Wiseman, Caroline Day and Karl Triebe.

State Showriding, Dubbo, 2010
Amidst the rising floodwaters and torrential rain, 12 brave Zone 23 members and their families headed forth to Dubbo for State Showriding on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of December. The Zone 4 organisers, particularly Dubbo Pony Club were amazing and we could not have asked for better facilities! Our four footed friends were housed in stables in a 5500 square metre indoor pavilion with masses of room to get ready undercover. The fitness check was carried out in the undercover Dressage arena and it chose to stay dry ALL WEEKEND!.
All of our members did exceptionally well in classes with up to 55 competitors with every member being called in at least once and most receiving placings. There were some exceptional efforts:
Our Team of 4 Riders under 13 with Tess O'Connor, Phoebe Sviderskas, Caitlin Brown and Daniella Raheb were 1st.
In the Pair of Pony Hacks 12.2hh and under all three of our Zone 23 teams placed: Tess O'Connor and Phoebe Sviderskas were 1st, Caitlin Brown and Macy Reen were 2nd and Daniella Raheb and Grace Reen were 4th – fabulous effort to see a line of Red!
Phoebe Wilkinson received a 1st in Bareback and Show Hunter and Phoebe Sviderskas received a 1st in Show Hunter – no mean feat when their classes were over 50 VERY COMPETITIVE ponies.
The 11 and under 13 class was the largest with 55 competitors and it is a credit to our Zone that all our members were in the top 12 overall: Phoebe Wilkinson was 3rd, Tess O'Connor was 7th, Phoebe Sviderskas was 10th and Caitlin Brown was 12th.
The full results of our Zone can be downloaded if anyone is interested.
Thank you to our Team Managers (Darlis Reen, Mark Raheb, Catriona Sviderskas, Garry Temm and Cheryl Miller) who did a great job of looking extremely smart all weekend and who had all our children where they should have been on time!
It was a pleasure to accompany these riders and their families to this event and I had a great sense of pride watching their exemplary behaviour and sense of Sportsmanship over the three days.

State Dressage
Congratulations to all members of the Zone 23 Team who competed
at State Dressage at Albury on the weekend of August 28th and 29th.
We had some fantastic results from our 9 members

age group. Rachel Adam was 3rd overall and Georgie Grove 10th overall
in the 13 and under 15 age group. Isabelle Miller was 6th overall in the 15 and
under
17 age group.
The other competitors all finished in the top half of the competition. When you
consider there were 50 in each age group this result is really wonderful and
I look forward to all the riders further improvements before State Dressage in
January 2011.
To top the weekend off, Zone 23 won the Champion Zone with Phoebe Wilkinson, Rachel Adam, Rachael Temm and Isabelle Miller contributing as the 4 highest scorers from the Zone 23 Team.
Phoebe Wilkinson was also selected as one of the top 4 riders of NSW – a great achievement!
To the Zone 23 Team Managers – Garry Temm, Sue Feeney and Cheryl Miller - Thank you for your efforts in getting the children where they should be on time. It is a huge extra effort to be assisting other children when you have your own to be looking after and we really appreciate your time.

Royal Easter Show
Report from Catriona Sviderskas
Zone
23 Junior Team of Four Riders – Sydney Royal Easter Show 2010. More
photos
Six riders represented Zone 23 in the under 13 years pony club events at this year’s Royal Easter Show.
In the Pony Club Team of Four Riders under 13 years the girls placed a well deserved second against strong competition.
The riders in this team were: Rachael Raheb (Arcadia PC), Caitlin Brown, Laura Shanahan and Phoebe Sviderskas (all from Dural PC). They executed their best ever workout and also gained the highest marks for appearance and gear in the competition. Everyone was absolutely delighted with the result - as the smiles in some of the accompanying photos show.
They were a very young team who are all very competent riders who have worked very hard at improving their riding skills over the past few months - Rachael is only 9 years old, Caitlin and Laura are 10 years old and Phoebe is 12. They were a delight to train and always listened attentively to directions and advice. They remained great friends, even when the inevitable difficulties of working in a team situation arose, and they all encouraged each other and tried to help each other out in training if things weren’t going to plan.
Thank you to our reserves, Courtney Williams from Dural PC and Phoebe Wilkinson (Avondale PC) for coming to practices and being ready to step in on the day if needed.
Thank you also to Sharryn Raheb, our team manager, for getting everyone together for practices and chasing up paperwork and also to our Zone 23 ZCI, Helen Wilkinson for getting the entries together and communicating with the RAS on our behalf.
It was wonderful to have so many Dural PC and Zone 23 members come out and support us on the day. It was a great thrill for the girls to hear the huge cheer from the stands when they had completed their workout.

State Show Riding
The seven riders who travelled to Bingara for the Pony Club of N.S.W Pony Club State Show Riding Championships represented the Zone admirably. The standard of competition was professional, and the class sizes were large, the riders did a great job to be finalists,( after a series of sometimes as many as four heats,) and be placed in their class.

riding Glynyarra Park Classic, well done Rachel and Crayons.
The rest of the team also rode well for good results: Congratulations
